My first simple question is IF THE FIREWALL IS TURNED OFF, does the issue or problem of enabled ports even apply???

if the firewall is OFF, that is no guarantee because windows also will have its own TCP/IP ports CLOSED which must be enabled but how differs from OS to OS.

Let me start out by saying I have no experience with wireless.

I found the manual on the web.

The device has a sim card like a cell phone.It connects to the pc/laptop via a usb port.

I suspect it connects to a cell tower and not a wireless router in the home.
If it does connect to a device in your home that device should have an internal ip(you will need the manual for that device to find the internal ip and any un and pw) that you can access from your web browser.

Since I have neither the modem nor the software I can not speak as to a firewall or builtin in router.

Port forwarding is only needed to host if you are behind a router.

Since the manual makes no mention of an internal ip I suspect you can only gain access through the management software.

I suggest a call to their tech support to see if you are behind a router or firewall on their end.

Thanks Troll2k,

I think I understand everything you are saying, and I have talked to the ISP provider; they state emphatically that they do not control port settings in any way, they say it's all controlled through Windows on my machine. I do not have a router, as I understand it. My machine is stand alone.

This all arose after a new install of Windows [a "parallel" install] and it feels like some stetting must be off in Windows...

I am on Windows XP Pro 64bit

do the attached settings look correct?

Sorry I do not see any attachment.

Windows XP has it own firewall.I believe you can access it from the control panel and the security section.There will be an exceptions tab.Make sure Steam,HL and launcher.exe all have permission.There is an add program tab at the bottom.

Launcher.exe should be in the Steam/Steamapps/common/IL2 cliffs Of Dover folder.

You can also check your IP filtering.

Right click on your network places icon on your desktop.Then click properties.When the window opens again right click on your network connection and click properties.

Another window will open up.

Highlight internet protocol and then click properties.

Another window will open.At the bottom click advanced.Another window will open and click on the options tab.

Highlight tcp/ip filtering and then click properties.Another window will open.Make sure all three have "permit all" checked.

Back all the way out and reboot for setting changes to take affect.

P.S. I did not see anywhere to set actual ports.Maybe someone else familiar with XP can help.

I ma familiar with the exceptions window, and Hyperlobby is listed, but I am running IL@ 4.11.1, and I do not see launcher or steam listed in add programs???

My mistake.I have Cliffs Of Dover on the brain.

Try adding IL2fb.exe to the exceptions.
