I've tried to playe il-2 on HL via 56k dial-up few days ago. And sometimes it was just incredibly amazing! As a 56ker but HL could provide me 235ping !!!!! My question is when i click my HL, and then log in my accouts and pin, and then choose one of the games, finally select"connect" , then the HL will automaticly list a few numbers of servers, and they are almost all "green pings". I live in Australia, is HL auto-detected and ONLY list the faster servers or the servers that close to my area?

HL lists all the servers that are available where the host is logged into HL.

Ping is not dependant on connection bandwidth, a slow modem may have the same ping as a fast cable connection. Ping measures the time it takes for single packet to travel from your machine to the other and back. The connection speed indicates how much information can be transferred in a second (when the connection is running at best speed).

IL2 doesn't require high connection speeds. It also doesn't require very low pings, anything up to about 500 is playable, but it does require stable pings. If ping is wandering up and down by large amounts during play, you will see some slightly odd behaviour.
