Hi

I've downloaded and installed the latest version of HL but it won't run on my pc as i constantly get the out of memory error. I did install the VB runtime as suggested in the faq but still stuck. HL does run great under Win98SE (my PC has dual boot 98SE/XP). So all hardware being equal between my two OS, there's sommething it doesn't like under WinXP. Any suggestions what I could try to do to fix it?

Thanks
Sanko

Try download and run this file:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb50pro/utila1/1/win98/en-us/vb5cli.exe

It is old fix for windows 98 ... But may help solve your problem under XP too.

Jiri - i'm finally back in front of my pc ready to install the file, but it wants a location to place the extracted files. Any idea what path I should use? I have no idea where these VB files should go... Embarassed

...ok, that was a stupid questions Embarassed i didn't realise it was just looking for a place to unzip the executable.

In any case, i never managed to make it work...until i thought to myself: "hmmm, why don't i try to run the version i installed on Win98SE...". So I booted under WinXP but launched the version of HL that i installed under Win98SE, and it worked! For some reason it didn't like having two versions of HL, even thought they were installed seperatly after booting under the two different OS.

Is DCOM Server Process Launcher running ? If not, re-activate it in Services (right click My Computer, Manage). Fixed mine right away.

Good luck,
Ray
