I have DSL connection. Pentium IV 2.8, Radeon X600 card, 512Mb RAM.
Running FB/AE/PF.
My ping is usually below 100. However, it jumps up as high as ten thousand. I can rarely play a game for very long before being kicked from the server.
My provider says that this is typical for online gaming with DSL. I COMPLETELY DISAGREE!!!!. I have also tried running without firewalll and it makes no difference.
Anyone have any idea what could be the problem???
EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED!!!

Hmmm, are you with Telewest/Blueyonder by any chance ?
I've recently changed to them for my cable connex ( not by choice, moved home ) and have been practically unable to play online ever since.
My Ping sits in the 150-250 range ( too high for cable anyway ) and frequently spikes into the thousands which gets me kicked at least every other time.
I've been tearing my hair out over it for at least 5 weeks now and no nearer a resolution ( browsing and line tests all look fine, but try to play and .. there it goes again. )
If anyone has had any similar experience, any advice will be most appreciated.
Cheers

Try setting you in game connection speed to the lowest possible 28.8k
I had the same problem at fist (im running cable 5 meg down 7 meg up) but after I set my connection speed to 28.8 I didnt lose any speed or have the ping lag spikes anymore. Hope that works for you
