Many People seem to always be asking how to host on a router, most the tutorials out there only show people how to open ports for IL2 only and not HL which you cant host.
Make sure your firewall allows exceptions on HL and Il2
So go into your router by typing 192.168.1.1 in IE or firefox address bar.
Go into port forwarding and open ports for both TCP and UDP, routers varie.

My router asks me for "server ip address" when I try to forward those ports, what IP does this refer to? is it the HL IP address, ISP server address or my own IP that I need to fill in?
Just to be absolutely clear do I type the port numbers 1698 and 2078 into both TCP and UDP sections AND IL2 21000 into both TCP and UDP??
All this is a black art to me.
yes all routers are different but you have to type in both udp and tcp ports for some routers, other routers like crappy linksys allow you to type inthe port range then select UDP and TCP with checkboxes.

This site should help you out for router brands also.
LS thanks for your help, I tried all those sites and all sorts of combinations of IP, Nat forwarding etc...no joy.
I Uninstalled my router software, reset all my TCP/ICP to automatic re-installed the router opened up DMZ on the router config (nothing else) and hey presto!! back able to host HL (after 5 days of messing about )
