Cant install HL

Tried to install latest version and cant get past initial blue screen. Nothing happens after that. Tried it several times, tried uninstalling old vesion, tried system restore, tried registry mechanic, no luck with anything. Cant even reinstall old version. Any ideas?

make sure your user account in windows is a computer administrator if it's not then you won't be able to install stuff

control panel>user accounts>pick a task>change an account>your user account>change account type and make sure you select computer administrator then at the bottom click change account type and that should let you install the new HL

Thats not it, thanks for the try. Been installing programs for years. Something went wrong with the update install that I can't figure out. Any other throughts?
