First: I have already come up with a work around that allows me to host WOE using either the SFP1 or WOV rooms.
Second: There is nothing broken with SFP1/WOV MP at this point. I have been hosting a server here for quite a long time, mostly WOV due to popular demand for WOV over SFP1.
Third: How much work would it really be to add another SFP1 based sim since WOE is identical to WOV in terms of the MP interface aside from the exe name?
There are a lot of factors that have kept SFP1 based online MP from becoming popular, but the one thing that has kept hope alive of getting a decent community going has been the free support from Hyperlobby as a means for finding other players. Without a server like Hyperlobby, new players will almost never have a chance to experience online MP with this series.
When WOE first came out, there was a flurry of people looking to try MP (as there was with WOV). Unfortunately, they never found a place to host/join. I advertised my WOE server at the ThirdWire forums that was hiding in the WOV section of HL, but only a few people came in and tested my server. I have been away from home for much of the time this year, so I haven't been able to maintain the server.
As an ardent supporter of SFP1/WOV/WOE multiplayer, I would really appreciate the addition of a dedicated room for it!
Thanks for finally addressing this. I never got a reply when I posted about it a long time ago in the general discussion forums back when WOE was released.

Replacing SFP1 with WOE isn't too bad an idea since most of the traffic was on the WOV room. Also Gamespy still supports SFP1 and anyone who wants to play SFP1 via HL can use the same trick I used to play WOE via the WOV lobby. Since WOE supports merged WOV/WOE installs, I suspect that a new WOE lobby will be the place that gets the most traffic since most people already playing WOV online will have WOE as well.
Do you need to have the original box? I don't want to give my box up, but I scan in the pertinent information and send you jpg images (the whole box if need be).
