I started HL normally and was looking in other (not FB) rooms - "Select Game" list .
Got a "Run time error '52' bad file name or number"
closed HL and got same message when re opening.
Re-installed HL no difference
Any ideas whats going on here? |

Hi, post your operating system and we may be able to help.
Sounds like a operating system or virus/worm issue, but I am not certain.
Questions to be answered.
Was HL working correctly prior to the failure?
Did you install any new software immediatly before the error?

Thanks, HL was running, right up to the time I crashed it. I've done scans and Adware checks since and re-installed HL.
It was working without problem untill I looked at the "Connect/Select Game" list. I see error 52 is assciated with file path, but have callsign and password checked, so cant do the CtrlShift Connect thing to change it ( or select the Forgotten Battles room) before HL connects and gives the error; which forces you to close the program. |

Tried booting from my backup OS and HL launches OK.
Tried a System restore , but it wont roll back.
I have Advanced windows care running, have scanned with Avast and AVG . Now the headache of having a dealer installed OEM OS begins.
Whatever is causing this only seems to be affecting Hyperlobby.
Wondering if its a corrupt registry entry, but no real leads yet.
Tried exporting the registry keys from the backup OS - no fix
Can launch HL from backup OS from either of 2 locations (SATA or IDE HD)
Still get error from either of these with SP2 OS.
This suggests that all the files installed for HL are OK.
my next step - Start/Run/Format C:
all the reference at that link said was:-
Quote: | 52 Bad file name or number Program error, verify the program has all the latest updates. If updated try reinstalling the program. If you continue to have the same errors contact the software developer. |
