After a major system update I get a disconnect for a "timeout" error message 20 or 30 s after succesfully joining a server. I upgraded the mother board, processor and videocard, but not the router.
I have already made sure that the 21000 UDP port and TCP 1698 port are enabled in the router (Invensys), and that the sw firewall (Comodo) has the permissions for HL. Also tried to play with loopback = 1 and the IP address in the hlpro.ini, but still no way.
*My system*:
ASUS P5K-E/WiFi AP (onboard WiFi disabled, using an USB WiFi adapter)
Intel core2 duo E8400
2GB DIMM 800 MHz
Video card: nvidia geforce 8800GT 512 MB
HD: Maxtor Diamondmax 10 250 GB
Game: Il2 Sturmovik 1946
Windows XP Home SP3

Win NT: 5.1.A28 - Service Pack 3
hlpro.exe 3.9.0.111
aping.exe 1.0.0.18
dexec.exe 1.0.0.8
mswinsck.ocx 6.1.97.82
msvbvm60.dll 6.0.98.2
asycfilt.dll 5.1.2600.5512

Thanks for helping,

Sorry, my experiance with Windows NT is rather old.
Back in the late 1990's we found NT was rather hostile twords games.
I ditched NT for Win2000 pro in late 1999 and never looked back.
I suggest you might want to dual boot that rig with XP for gaming.

Doodlebug,
thx for answering. I actually have Windows XP Home SP3, and everything was fine before the major system upgrade. The NT trick is a verinfo bug I think.

Ok, try your windows firewall.
It can cause mayhem in online gaming.

Doddlebug,
I have a Comodo sw firewall and there the ports are duly opened and HL and Il2 authorised. I even desactivated all the network adapters other than my WiFi USB, to avoid conflicts. Here are the network settings of conf.ini, everything seems OK:
[NET]
speed=5000
routeChannels=0
serverChannels=15
localPort=21000
remotePort=21000
SkinDownload=0
serverName=No Name
serverDescription=
remoteHost=
localHost=
socksHost=
checkServerTimeSpeed=1
checkClientTimeSpeed=0
and here the hlpro.ini, changing DetectLocalIP to 1 or 0 doesn't improve the situation:
[Forgotten Battles]
joinDelay=20
clientRate=8000
;Determine the client source port. Useful when is more that one user behind the NAT router.
;Must be diferent for each user behind the same NAT router
localPort=21000
;This detecting right IP address for systems with more that one network adapters
;Default is 1 (on)
DetectLocalIP = 0
;Set to 1 when both server and client are behind a router, using
;private network address and both are behind one public ip address
loopback=0
;When is loopoback set to 1, here must be specified private ip address
; of the server behind a router
loopbackip=192.168.1.1
Order=20

I finally got this problem solved, everything is fine now and Hyperlobby servers are accessible flawlessly. I had to create a static IP for my PC (connection->Properties->TCP/IP) and reconfigure the router port forwarding for the UDP and TCP 21000 port.
More details here:

Best regards,
