Cannot Connect To Games

Hi All .... i am new so dont mind the question. I am sure that this is asked a number of times before too.
I have a LinkSys router and cable modem.
I am able to connect to the client and log on to Hyper Lobby.
I only play USAF and Falnker2.5.
When i click on a slot. I get all Yellow lines and am unable to connect to the game.
Do i have to open any ports on my router in order for me to start playing ?
Can someone please let me know !!!!!

I think that i missed this part

Problem: Cannot start a game.. put my name in slot. All yellow lines..game launches but cannot connect ...
