Ok folks, here's the results of a test run in IL2 Forgotten Battles
on a AOL dialup. Ping was un changed but more stable.
Connection speed is NOT improved, in fact it is slower by 5%.
Noticable lag drasticly reduced. The only lag / warping was
if the whole server was lagging.
The PCI modem on the same connection warped like a deamon.
The PCI modem was a US Robotics 56K. (NOT a "Win modem")
The external is a Lucent 56K
An external modem will not help a bad connection, it will not
enable you to run a game server.
But if all is in order it might reduce lag and warping.
Sorry, but I will not say it is a fix, dial up connections do vary a lot.
This may explain why PCI DSL modem equipped computers lag bad
despite their high speeds and low ping.
The PCI card shares resources with the game and causes WARP.

My friend has run the Lucent external modem for over a month now.
The results are clear. Dramatic reduction in warping.
He has said, and I can verify, that lag in other games such as
Unreal Tournament and UT2003 have also seen a drastic
reduction in lag.
You guys with internal DSL or cable modems may also see
better results with an external modem. Most cable modems are
the external type.
