Hi,
It's been awhile since I last posted. Unfortunately, I'm having another issue other than the runtime error 52. I never got this problem solved, so I just joined games via IP. I have since then downloaded the latest version of HL: 4.2.3.
Now, I have another issue w/ HL. It's another runtime error.
Run time error 75
Path/file access error
Let me say that this error appears before the lobby is shown. The lobby simply doesn't open and this message is the only thing that opens.
Any suggestions? My systeme hasn't changed since I first posted w/ the runtime error 52. My installation path is:
C:\Games\Ubisoft\IL2 Sturmovik 1946\il2fb.exe
I've about given up hope of ever using HL again since it dropped support for the 3.xxx series. I would like to use HL to join other servers, but I don't know if it's worth the hassle anymore.
Sincerely,
HB |

S! Alpha,
I've seen that page when I originally started this thread. I posted a screen shot of the previous problem. The only difference I'm having now is that the error has now changed to run time error 75. I'm running the exact same system as before w/ no changes.
I'm still using Windows 7 64bit w/ the latest updates. AMD 955BE stock, EVGA 260gtx, 4gb Corsair, and 3x 500gb WD HDs. Again, nothing has changed on my end. I never got HL working w/ 4.2.1 and gave up even after trying all the fixes. I switched to manually joining games for IL2 1946. I saw that HL came out w/ the latest software and I thought I'd try again. I follow the installations as instructed....error message. I've tried stock installation, I've tried changing installation path w/o success. I continue to get the "Run-time error '75': PAth/File access error".

I started new thread for this cause ...
I have no idea what is wrong with your system, other thousands installation of 4.2.3 working fine. It mean something is wrong with your system.
HL need write into you user profile exactly:
Code: | c:\users\<your windows username>\AppData\Roaming |
During startup HL there create folder hyperlobby and move copy there some stuff from its programfiles folder. You may check if there folder hyperlobby exists, you may delete it and try start HL again. |

Hi jv44heinzbar
Basically Hyperlobby cannot find the file path to make the installation as Jiri has indicated.
c:\users\<your windows username>\AppData\Roaming
Check to make sure this file path exists as already posted or you have rights to access this part of the Win 7 os under your user account.
Did you upgrade from XP to Win 7 or was it a clean installation ?

Hi all , just had this problem with Run-time 75 . Fixed by setting Appdata BACK to read/write. Folder was changed by me somehow
RAF_Natalcleft
p.s. Thanks Jiri for a fantastic bit of software , unfortunately being used by idiots like me. |

I will change way the message popup in this case. Runtime error is abit cryptic. In next versions there will be popup message than will inform about problems writing in to appdata. |

Hi,
I installed 4.2.3 in Windows 7 64bit. Win7 64 was a clean installation and not an upgrade from XP or Vista.
I'm attaching .jpgs of the latest attempts to get HL running. Prior to doing this latest installation I uninstalled every HL folder that I could find. This means I deleted folders under Users directory, as well as, under Programs x86.
This latest attempt I tried installing it in a different pathway rather than using Program x86. No success from either attempt.
I did notice that when I installed HL in the 'games' folder, more files appeared. These files include HL.fls, HL.ign, and HL.ini. When I let HL determine the pathway (programs x86), HL would only installed the files preceding HL.fls, HL.ign, and HL.ini. Please see attachments for the files preceding HL.fls.
Again, the runtime error 75 appears.
I hope this helps some.

HI,
I've tried several times to uncheck the 'read only' box. Each time I go back to the box, it is 'rechecked' to read only. I uncheck the box and click 'apply', then ok. I try running HL and I get the 75 error. However, when I go back to see the status of the folder, read only is check off again.
I'm relatively new to Windows 7 64, so I may be missing something. I am the system administrator for my system and I have 'full control' set for myself. Under these conditions, I miss the old XP way of doing things.

I have found that (with W7)having admin rights and running as admin are not the same thing. It seems to me(no proof) that the admin account can do things that the user with full control can not. |

This attached 4.2.4 version will show detailed error messages when creation of the data profile during HL startup fail. Try it and report back what it say, it may help to solve your problem. |

Ok,
I turned off user control and tried running 4.2.3. I was still getting the 75 runtime error.
I tried the latest HL 4.2.4 and a new error appears. I'm attaching pics of the errors. They are in order that they appear from top to bottom. top pic is the first error. bottom pic is the 2nd error. They appear to be the same error loading twice.
This is really baffling to me. This may sound silly, but do I need to have winzip or winrar to extract the .msi file? Also, I assume .msi is the same thing as .exe, which the old HL used to install the program.
I'm running straight from the zip and directing it to install in C:\games\hyperlobby. |

"C:\users\brent\Application Data" folder is not accesible in windows 7 (its junction to "C:\users\brent\AppData\Roaming" and its not accesible by default) So the error message is corect now.
You have those choices:
1./ Make clean install of Windows, you may have problems also with another applications.
2./ Use this hack than force HL to place datafiles in to installation folder:
Open common.ini file located in your installation folder, and insert in to [Configuration] section this line:
useappdata=0
You will must repeat this procedure every HL update. Because its unsupported hack.
3./ Find and fix reason why your windows poiting CSIDL_APPDATA in to "Application Data" instead of "AppData\Roaming" as is default for vista and later.
4./ Change permission of junction "C:\users\brent\Application Data"
I cannot help you with this more ... |
