I've got a server setup 24/7 on a t1 behind a cisco pix firewall. I've opened the port for IL2 and it works fine direct ip, but I need to know what ports to open for Hyper to work.

Hey Skyghost! Great to hear from you! I haven't been online much lately - just really busy - but I hope to see you in Hyper soon.

Hello

When you enable in to uour router NAT it not need any other configuration. Only when you want host games you must setup port forwarding back to your computer(IL2 and FB need UDP ports 21000) . HL uses tcp port 1698 and ICMP echo reply protocol for latency calculation ...

I have tried to host a number of times this week, without success. I have port 21000 and 1698 open, and I even tried with the DMZ. I disabled my Norton firewall and antivirus and set my IP to static but it still doesnt work. I also called Linksys but that didnt help either...
What I dont understand is "ICMP echo reply protocol" and the Linksys guy didnt know what that was either....
I need to figure this out...any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

wurgerflieger,

I'm guessing you have got a Linksys router, same as I have. I too have a problem hosting, but I also have problems joining a game through a direct IP connection. It is fine to join through HyperLobby, but not through direct IP.

Unfortunately I can't help with your hosting problem, but do you know what settings I ought to change in my router so that I may join games via direct IP address?I 've tried enabling port-forwarding, and DMZ, but without luck. Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

I cant join through direct IP either. I talked to Linksys and my ISP and the problem is that it has to go through 2 different subnets; first the DSL modem and then the router and that seems to be a problem. When I tried to rout it directly to the modem and bypassing the router, I had the same problem though.....dont know what to do...

Sorry that I couldnt help you more....

Thanks for the reply... at least I now have an idea what is going on (or not going on!).

I've been trying it with different settings and different games this evening (and driving my mate up the wall asking him to host every 5 minutes Smile ), but without any luck for direct IP connections.

I usually play Forgotten Battles through HyperLobby, so there is not a problem, but it's a shame I can't play other games online.

Thanks for getting back to me though Hakan, if I find out anything more in the future I'll let you know. Smile

I have the same eproblem I think Crying or Very sad

FIRST QUESTION: CAN I HOST FROM TWO COMPUTERS AT THE SAME TIME BEHIND THE ROUTER ?

I am using WinroutePro (software) as recommended by Jiri in a previous posting.

Hyperloby on PC1 : port 21002
Hyperloby on PC2 : port 21003

Port Mapping on the router for the above ports is activated and working

Both PCs can play simultaneously, and connect to other hosts in HL, no problem

IF I TRY TO HOST A GAME ON ONE PC, then nobody can get connected !!!!

IF HOWEVER I change the default port on Host PC back to the normal 21000 and map port 21000 to the PC THEN, IT GETS CONNECTED!!!!!!

CONCLUSION: HL seems to be able to host behind a router ONLY if you use the default port 21000.
No chance to host two games using two PCs behind the router.

Jiri are my thoughts correct or do I start losing it ?

wurgerflieger and 335th_GRAthos,

I haven't given up with this problem, and I found this information in the HyperLobby Technical Support Section. This may only apply to IL-2 and Forgotten Battles though (the bit we haven't tried is setting DetectLocalIP=0 in the hlpro.ini file):

Quote:
Solution for users behind NAT router/firewall:
The game using always UDP port 21000 (hyperlobby force this port). You must setup your router/firewall to enable this port in both direction. Some NAT routers have options DMZ host to expose one ip from internal network directly to the internet. Use this option when you want host game server. Edit the hlpro.ini file and in section [IL-2 Sturmovik (full version)] change value DetectLocalIP=1 to DetectLocalIP=0.

Solution for users with multiple network adapters:
Hl always automaticaly detect right IP address of network adapter that are connected in to internet, and force the game to use this adapter. This option should be turned off by hlpro.ini file. Edit the hlpro.ini file and in section [IL-2 Sturmovik (full version)] change value DetectLocalIP=1 to DetectLocalIP=0.
Then open il2setup application and select right network adapter by network tab.

This is the entry for Forgotten Battles in the hlpro.ini file:
Quote:
[Forgotten Battles]
joinDelay=20
clientRate=2000
;Determine the client source port. Useful when is more that one user behind the NAT router.
;Must be diferent for each user behind the same NAT router
localPort=21000

;This detecting right IP address for systems with more that one network adapters
;Default is 1 (on)
DetectLocalIP=0
Description=Dave's Game
MaxPlayers=20
Difficulty=3

So it looks like you can change the port you are hosting on too! I've made the change to my hlpro.ini file, but haven't tested it yet... good luck! (I might be wrong though, but it won't be the first time! Wink )

Hi, I have a linksys router and want for my brother and I to fly IL2FB on HL, through my LAN. Any detailed instructions on how to do this. I've read about the ports, but how to change and such. I run WIN XP.

Do I need to change anything for both of us to fly in same rooms, or change only if I want to host. Any help greatly appreciated.

Just edit the hlpro.ini of your brother's computer:

Make the local port 21001 as below:

;Must be diferent for each user behind the same NAT router
localPort=21001

That's all!

This also means that your brother will NOT be able to HOST a game, only your PC will be able to do hosting (if you are ever interested).

RGDS,

Athos

Thank You so much. I didn't know it would be that easy. For the longest time I have wanted to do this but thought it was some drastic process that I would fry my machine trying to accomplish. It was as easy as you said. It works and we are quite happy now. I read a lot more into it before. Again thanks.

Glad to hear you got it working Sykstring, I don't suppose you could give me a few pointers about your router settings can you? Smile

I also have a Linksys router, but there is only me that wants to play Forgotten Battles (no need to worry about changing ports then!). I am fine for joining a game through HyperLobby, but I am unable to host... the game launches, but no one is able to establish a connection to me. Confused

Have you changed any of your router's settings, or opened ports etc? Any help would be much appreciated!
