I have FB stand alone 1.22 and I can't get a copy of AEP because it's been discontinued from the manufacturer and I don't have credit cards to order online.
I'll keep looking around for a second hand copy or old stocks but I don't like my chances.

I can get PF easy enough (but it's $70 and I only like the Euro theatre anyway, AEP is only $30 new).

So are there FB servers or is everything FB+AEP+PF nowadays?

I'm new to this, so aside from registering here and downloading the server software is there anything else I need to know to get started?

I've made enquiries with one squadron already, but while I'm waiting...

If you really want a copy of AEP, you could try out e-bay - I know you don't have credit cards but I used a cheque when I bought my copy. To be honest I think the vast majority of people are flying the combined FB/AEP/PF option these days, regardless of what theatre you prefer, you should still consider it as you will have many more planes to choose from and more realistic flight handling due to the patches available for this set up.

That is my understanding as well. Very few servers not running the combined install standard now.

I have IL2/FB v1.22 but I have not upgraded to AEP or PF. Is that the reason I can't get online at all any more?

You should be able to get online. There just may not be anyone to play against. The IL2 room is usually empty and the Forgotten Battles room is only FB+AEP+PF.

There still may be some IL2 players over at Ubi.com.
