ive found a "new" version of HL client on the forums somewere, but on the HL mainpage the download is still 3.8.95. Will using this newer version, as i d o now, affect riscing a bann, or cause problems to other ppl joining my servers, or the HL communitiy itself?

Those versions fixing some specific issues. Those issues are not general, but user specific. So the main page was not updated
