Setting up - install, updates, special issues

First of all, Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 is required. Fresh out of box, this is game version 4.07. If you bought the game via Steam, see these links(note that Steam buy will be version 4.08m after install):

From a box(DVD) install:

XP: Default installation path is C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Il-2 Sturmovik 1946\. You can install it there if you want.

Vista: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Il-2 Sturmovik 1946\. To avoid possible issues, do NOT install the game there. It is also highly recommended to turn off the UAC(User Account Control) or make the system run both game and HyperLobby "As Admin" by default.

W7: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Il-2 Sturmovik 1946\ - again, it is recommended to not install the game anywhere in either of the program files.

After installing the game, 2 updates are needed. These are 4.08m and 4.09m. The updates are cumulative, meaning that you must install 4.08m before 4.09m. They are both needed to play online.

You will probably have to manually set the installation path for the updates, as default extraction path is wrong. After installing 4.08, open single player(il2fb.exe), and in the loading splash screen, it should say "4.08m" above loading percentage. Do the same after 4.09 update to be 100% sure you have the correct version. See picture below:

Now, you should be ready to go. If HL says that you dont have the game installed(make sure the game room you join is il2 1946), RIGHT CLICK the connect button to set the installation path.

After setting a correct path and updating the game, you are good to go! If you experience any connection issues, clear il2 in Windows firewall, and any others you have.
