I recently purchased two Seagate 1.5 TB drives from NewEgg.
Both were partitioned to 500 gig partitions, no problems so far
but I never attempted to use tham un partitioned.

"Runtime error 216" indicates the installation has not been completed.
I suggest you try the right click for admin rights
and try again.

A common error is to use the "Quotes" om the beginning and end of the command line.
The "Steam" version is compatable in every way.

From reading your post I assume your game will not run even off line.
Try opening the il2set.exe and try using the safe settings for video and sound.

Failing that try moving the game installation ...
