Hello

I have been using 3.5.68 ( I think that was the version). I worked fine, no probs playing LOCK ON at all.

The little pager message telling you to upgrade finally bugged me enough over the last few weeks that I unistalled HL and downloaded 3.6.68. Installed it as normal - now when I run it is says Hyperlobby server is temporary down, please try again in a few minutes. I guess the server is ok as this only happened in the few mins it took me to uninstal the old version and put on the new.

I have tried re-installing but to no good.

What could I be doing wrong. I have all ports availabe etc, all other games still work fine, I installed it using deault settings on Win XP.

Please help with any ideas for me.

I wanted to re-install the old version but cant find it anywhere, I thought there might have been an archive of older versions incase some people have problems with the latest builds. Does anyone know if its possible to get my old version back.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a firewall problem!
Did you check your firewall settings or XP firewall?
You cann't use old version!

Your right!

For some reason, I now have to disable Norton Internet security completely to logon. Before I could logon without disabling and then I only had to disable it for some servers to work.

Now I have to disable it all the time.

Not sure why, I checked the settings and all comms are enabled, UPD etc, cant see why, oh well, its working, thats good for now.

Thanks!

You welcome Smile
I dont have Norton Security instelled but I am sure there is a way to let HL comunicate freerly and have your firewall active at the same time.
You have to give access to hlpro.exe and aping.exe files located at program files HL directory!

I can see hlpro.exe is the program listed as having access, never heard of the aping.exe file though. Maybe there is a way of making individual files access freely to the net. Will check it out when I finish work.

Thanks for the advice.

Ok found a fix, turn off your firewall , the port forwarding is not working the same as in the last version .

Then start HL and sign on. After that start your firewall backup and it should show a popup saying that you need to allow HL yes no, and always.

Click yes and always and it should take care of the problem. It did on mine anyway.

Like I said above it has something to do with the port forwarding on the software and hardware firwalls., it is not working the same as the early versions of HL.
If you have a hardware firewall in a router you will have to go in and foward the ports there , 21000 tcp and UDP. Now some are going to say that you don't need the UDP, well for some reasion on some of the routers this has to be open for it to work. I don't know why but the tech support and Belkin said that theres and some of the others are seeing this problem and this is a workaround till they get the bios upgraded.

UPDATE I just Recived....
They think all of this came about because of a Security upgrade that M$ put out just in the last few days, and yes I had installed it.
Then Jiri came out with the upgrade to HL just about the same time. That is what thru me off for a couple of days. He just got caught in M$ normal good luck ware and fixes. Smile

Hey..thanks for the reply!

I can't remember if I ever got my HL working with Norton, think the problem was with the aping.exe file perhaps..anyway, to cut a very long story short, I came back from a long holiday and my live Update wouldn't work anymore, I asked some guys at work for advice and they said try some of the latest Antivirus and Firewall applications cause Norton is rubbish.

I asked on my fav forum www.lo-mac.com (a flight sim forum) what people recommended and the same 2 answers kept on coming.

Grisofts AVG antivirus and Sygate Firewall.

Both are free, very easy to install and run like a dream compared to Norton. All the magazines give them good reviews.

On first run I enabled all the apps I need and it all runs good, I would recommend these apps, my online gaming is more reliable with less problems.

Thanks for all the help and advise again.
