I am running my system on a DSL connection behind a D-link DI-604 router. I have opened port 21000 from the firewall and can connect to FB servers using the ubisoft client.

When using HL, I have to set the HlPro.ini file to DetectLocalIP =0 rather than 1 to connect to HL FB servers. This works and I connect to the first server I select. This is where the problem gets interesting. If I change servers after this I get the original Timeout Error. Also, I now get the timeout error using the ubisoft server client. I reinstalled FB and HL and get the same results on a retry.

So I looked at the conf file in the FB directory and saw that HL was modifying it everytime I changed servers. If I use the original conf file after installation it runs on one HL server then if I switch servers it times out no matter what. I run IL2 setup and it doesnt help. If I save the original conf file and then overwrite the one generated after joining an HL server then I can use HL to join another server.

So, I can use HL, but I have to copy my original conf file to the IL2-FB directory every time I wish to use a different server or play a game using the UBI client.

I tried making the conf file read-only and found that HL will change it back from read-only and overwrite it anyway. Hopefully this is enough info to help for a fix. If any of the developers are interested in this, I can email them the original and HL-modified conf files upon request.

A batch file can be made that would save the original conf file when HL joins one server and then replace the new conf file with the original when one joins a different server, this is a sloppy but effective fix. I haven't written the batch file yet though because I'd like some more input before I start coding junk.

Upgraded to the new version, everything else is the same. The error is still happening. HL doesn't seem to work at all for me.

Dear breaky01,
I've had (and still have Sad( ) the same problem except the fact that I was not so smart to have look at the conf file of FB. Yet I'm sure if I change it back to the original one I will be able to connect to a server once and never again after leaving this server. If you should have programmed a script in the meantime would you mind sending it to me??? I'd be absolutely greatful to find a fix to this error. And of course I'd be glad to hear anything else concerning any other solution to this problem!!!
Hope to c u in the skies someday, Bierchen!!!
