Hi, I just installed the 1946 and can join the 4.09m room on HL. Thanks to those who helped.
I realize that in addition to the 4.09m patch, there's "Ultrapack 2.0" and "MDS 1.13?". What are these for? Do these patches offer any advantages and/or new features (i.e. mission, maps, flyables, etc) over the original 4.09m.
If I choose to install the Ultra 2.0/MDS 1.13 (because I saw rooms on HL run on them), can I still join the 4.09m rooms? Are they compatible to each other? Or, is the Ultra2.0/MDS 1.13 downward(backward) compitable with the original 4.09m patch?
Which version is more commonly used on Hyperlobby?
Thank you,
Richard

I am following you around it seems;
For maximum compatibility with every possible server you might wish to join, you should consider the UP 2.01.
The page is laid out in a most unruly manner and is quite counter-intuitive.
Ignore the UP 2.0 and updates to 2.01 or you will be wasting your time.
Toward the midpoint of the page are links to mirrors of the 9 parts to the Ultrapack 2.01 download. I found the green links by F16Petter to be the best here in the Western USA.
Be advised, the UP is about 5gigabytes worth of downloading, so an download manager such as getright etc or the Firefox browser is a wise choice to prevent broken or failed downloads.
With the UP 201, you can fly stock 4.09m, HSFX, Zuti, MDS and more with a few menu clicks before launching. I use it and have zero issues except forgetting to switch back to stock 4.09 after flying a modded mission.
Despite common belief, the UP/HSFX people actually changed teh flight models of many aircraft to make them perform more like the originals. The FMs, scenery, effect, SOUNDS and terrain make the download and use of the UP a worthy effort in my opinion.

Hi Strega,
Thanks very much for your info. You mentioned that the UP 2.01 is compitable with the original 4.09m to the extent that I make a few manual selections before launching the 1946.
How and where do you exactly manually change the settings? When you play on HL, you click on the "room" you want to join and your PC will lanuch the game automatically.
BTW, I just bought a laptop and plan to play the game with it for a while until I update my desktop PC ( in a few months). Mine comes with dedicated ATI 5450 graphic card. I don't know if the game will burden the laptop due to the intense graphics and heat...

When the UP 201 installer completes properly you will get JSGME, Ultrapack-Update and Ultrapack-Switcher icons on your desktop and program menu.
Before joining a game, check the info to see what version and mods he/she is running.
Noting this, you check the UP Switcher to see if you are running HSFX or UP. Make the proper change, then open JSGME.
For one example; the host is running stock 4.09m. You select/click Stock 4.09 from the left mods listing window and click the > to add it to the stack.
Close the JSGME window and join the game.
Should the host be running HSFX with xyz mod, you open the switcher, activate HSFX, close, open JSGME and select the particular mod(s) the host is running....close and join the game.
Once you've done it a few times it becomes quite easy.
The laptop should run IL2 just fine since it will run on older harware quite well.
Good Luck!

Strega,
Thanks a lot for your info. I'll try it later once I get hang of flying on HL.
I got in HL last night for an hour and was "shot down" by fellow players multiple time. I only had one kill. After 3 years of non flying, my hands and tactics got rusty...
