I'm on XP, SP3. I had HL 3.9 and a while back it worked fine. Since the new version, which i downloaded and installed last night, it's no longer connecting. I have turned off my firewall, yet i hit connect and it says connecting to server but never times out or anything. I can either exit or type a random message in the box, hit enter and it says error. I am behind a router but i'm failing to see how 3.9 worked and 4.2.3 doesnt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I did sir......i didnt find the solution in there. I got my OS and the problem.... what is it that i'm missing?

Try explain step by step how you installed last update.
Also you may try, uninstall all HL stuff from add/remove programs, restart computer and try install latest HL in to its default location.
A screenshot will be graeat.
Try wait up to few minutes. An error message will must popup in to the chat. If not something is badly screwed at your end.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Turned out to be some type of firewall issue. I got zone alarm and it automatically configured it for me! Happy Skies!
