Hi
I got the new HL 4.2.7 and now the players list loads very slowly and also the servers.
when i click join on a server it take about half a minute to a minute for it to react and acualy start the game for me... (i am not talking about the waiting time HL gives to start a game).
This is very strange, i've been using HL for few years now with no problem.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? its like the everything is working in slow motion - connection wise.
I have Win Xp, 2gb ram, p4 3Ghz.
I have 1.5Mbps (Mega Bit) connection, had no problems with it before.
Should i forward any ports on my router?
Thanks! |

Same here.
Since I updated to version 4.2.12 it goes very slow, suffers frequent freezes, and almost anything takes between 20-40 seconds. HL's chat also suffers a tremendous lag.
Funny is that with previous HL version I never had a problem!
Operating system is Windows XP SP3
Trying to solve the problem I've opened port 1698 , but it has not solved the issue.
I've reinstalled HL several times with no better luck.
Can anybody, please, help? |

i wonder if it could be an XP issue since the both of you have it.I know it sounds silly but try unplugging your router for 20 seconds and see if that helps.I recall a problem like that a while back when i was using XP and it worked for me. |

something is hogging up your system resources i think.open task manager and see what it is. you can also download game booster, when enabled it shuts down what ever you dont need running. Also try doing a virus scan.
or try the new beta lobby.

version:4.2.15
this will give u the "new" version.it will have the new Cliffs of Dover room.I understand that since you both are running XP you cannot join CloD servers but at least you will have the latest version. It wont interfere with any other lobby games you are using so no worries there.
hope this helps,cant hurt.
leave a post and let us know what happens. |

Hi
I ran a viruscan (Kaspersky) with no incidences.
I'll try what you suggest and will let you know what happens.
Thanks for it. |

Hi. Tried the new version.
Did not notice any noticeable improvement in the connection speed. |

im out of suggestions then.It would seem the problem is on your end.
try downloading Gamebooster
what it does is shut down anything that windows does not need to run games better.for example in taskmanager u have 49 processes running.Game booster would reduce that to the bare essentials and would improve performance.
Also keep in mind the time of day that u r playing.Where i live @ 7-8pm my ping goes up due to more people using the net.
also try Java..il2 likes java and sometimes increases FPS. |

the other thing you could try is a registry cleaner. i use glarysoft utilities. it cleans out unused reg entries that can slow down applications. was just an idea |
