I removed EAW and reinstalled it to a different directory on the same drive.
The drive is formatted with FAT32 and always has been. OS is Win98Se.
I have tried the auto detect function but that didn't help. Hyperlobby just flies over the path and doesn't stop.
I have tried cutting and pasting the path directly into the window and hitting save. It then tells me it cannot find the eaw.exe in the path despite the fact that I have told Hyperlobby where it is.
I have checked all case. I have tried all upper case, I have tried all lower case.l I have tried it as in the path.
I have uninstalled Hyperlobby, cleaned the registry of all HL entries, and done the same with EAW. Both manually and with System mechanic.
I have checked the EAW path to make sure that all the folders are NOT read only. They are open, without passwords.
I have copied the eaw.exe dirctly from the CD to root on the C drive, and tried to have Hyperlobby detect it there. It still willl not recognise it.
Hyperlobby detects IL2FB and Il2 without a problem.
I am using the latest version Of HL.
I have tried reinstalling a previous version of HL, but still have the same result.
Anybody got a fix for this?

Thanks for that Jiri, I thought it was something to do with the registry.
I have reinstalled from my original CD but. no Joy.
Do you have any idea what the registry entries are that HL uses for the Eaw executable?
I have cleaned out the registry twice, but there must still be something in there from EAW that I cannot see. Even the search brings up nothing.
Many thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem where I could connect to hyperlobby, but could not launch or join a EAW game. The screen would go black, then kick me back to the hyperlobby screen with no error messages.
When the screen goes black, I noticed that the Windows Task Bar is still at the bottom of the screen, and an EAW tab comes up on it. I clicked on this EAW tab (while the screen was black), and it took me into the game screen. Since no one else was on, I was unable to actually launch a game, but this seems to work. Worth a shot.
