Can anyone assist me with setting up a dedicated server. Confused

The server is in a data processing centre and I connect remotely to it.

I can get a server running but cannot seem to get is "seen" by hyperlobby. Pilots can join the server by using the Multiplay Option in IL2FB. Very Happy

I would like it to be available on hyperlobby for everyone.

I am just learning this so am struggling with the likes of config files etc.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

S!

"You connect remotely to it" I understand you can control the machine.

I also understand that you have a static IP address (your server has a fixed TCP/IP address).

So,

Install Hyperlobby on that machine.

LOOK AT THE 'confs.ini' and 'server.cmd' (open them with any text editor). Just to get an idea...
Make sure you understand the impact of IP Port 21000 (on Hyperlobby, Firewall, Router) or any other port you select. You must use the same port when starting a game through Hyperlobby.
I understand that people can connect directly into your server so the required ports are open. You only need to ensure that you use the same ports when you set up Hyperlobby.

Rename the il2server.exe to IL2FB.exe
Start HYPERLOBBY. Link the IL2FB.exe to the Hyperlobby start programm.

Start a dogfight in Hyperlobby and test whether everybody can join in.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK: I copied the \USERS\*.* directory of my IL2FB into a \dedicatedserver \USERS directory (or where your Ded.server is).
I do not know whether this is still required to make HL work.

The above should make it work!

IF IT STILL DOES NOT!
No worries, just time for some reading:

In this thread you will find everything oyu need to make it work.

I have tried renaming the Server file. Hyperlobby excepts it as the file but will not let me login? I have copied the Users folder from my NON Server installation (although I cannot find an AEP folder so I used the C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Users\ Folder and I had to copy all the files individually. All I get is...

Please wait ... connecting ...
HyperLobby server is temporary unavailable ...
Please wait few minutes and try reconnect again ...

Please help me ....

Hmmm....

Have you ever run HL from that PC where the Dedicated Server is ? Or is it the first time you installed HL on that machine ?

1. If answer is: "First time I installed HL on that machine"
Then you need to ensure that the correct ports are open (in your router).
For HL if you have not changed anything during installation, you need to open port 21000.
In hlpro.ini you see under Forgotten Battles "Localport= 21000"
and after you have set up a server, you will see "serverport=21000" in there, too.
Port 21000 is the standard, you can change it if you want to use another port. Let's suppose for simplicity reasons, that you will use port 21000 for HL connection and port 21000 for server connection.

Check whether your router directs all requests to port 21000 to the PC where your Hyperlobby is running (it is called "Port Forwarding")

1. If answer is: "I already had installed HL on that machine and it was working before"
Then you chose to log in at a bad moment. try again later...

Good luck!

Many thanks
We have the PF Server on 21000 and the FB server on 21001. So I will try those settings. Is it okay to put the "serverPoret=21001" in manually?
I do not have control of the portsd but the servers run out of those ports, so I assume they are open...

Thanks Again

Okay I have just tried that. Things were a little better ... HL recognises the renamed server and allows my login and password, but stops at

Please wait ... connecting ...

I think I need to understand how the ports inter-relate and which config file goes with which application. eg
Ports - local, remote, server, etc
Configs - conf, confc, confs etc

For the FBDaemon to talk to teh game sever (il2fb.exe) which ports are they?

What next?

Hmmm.... we need to go on a step by step approach.

FIRST you need to get HL up and running!
you wrote

When pilots join using the Multiplay option in IL2FB, what do the key in ?
Usualy it is a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:ZZZZZ The ZZZZZ is the port the users use to get connected. And it works since you mentioned that they get connected.

This is the port you need to set up your Hyperlobby at

The line in hlpro.ini should look like:
[Forgotten Battles]
joinDelay=20
clientRate=8000
;Determine the client source port. Useful when is more that one user behind the NAT router.
;Must be diferent for each user behind the same NAT router
localPort=ZZZZZ
;This detecting right IP address for systems with more that one network adapters
;Default is 1 (on)
DetectLocalIP = 1
Order=20

So first tell whether HL works.

I tried it right now but I could not log in using direct ip with my IL2FB under the address 204.11.239.94:21001

Actually I found out that your server is runing now and accepts connections at 204.11.239.94:21000 Idea

But it gives me a message "Connection attempt rejected. Reason: Server uses a different version of the game (3.04)"

I am running Il2FB 3.04merged install (IL2FB + Pacific Fighters)
Are you using normal IL2FB without Pacific fighters ?

Or are you running more than one dedicated server on that machine ?

I guess you are usind Hyperlobby Pro 3.8.95 version, right?

The line in hlpro.ini should look like:
[Forgotten Battles]
joinDelay=20
clientRate=8000
;Determine the client source port. Useful when is more that one user behind the NAT router.
;Must be diferent for each user behind the same NAT router
localPort=21000 since you are running the server on 21000
;This detecting right IP address for systems with more that one network adapters
;Default is 1 (on)
DetectLocalIP = 1
Order=20

You have set up the link to il2fb.exe under the game "Forgotten Battles" right?
Can you start Hyperlobby again and tell me whether it does connect ?

OK
Another Person has got it running, but it is the IL2PFsa(3.04) server using port 21000

I am trying to get the second server running which is the same URL but port 21001 running IL2PFm(3.04)

At the moment I cannot contact him to see how he did it...

Well to me it gives the message "Connection attempt rejected. Reason: Server uses a different version of the game (3.04)"
So the server is not using the merged installation.

Anyway, you got me a bit confused now.
Lwt me summarize my understanding up to now:

You have a server with IP 204.11.239.94
The server runs WinXP (or Win2K)
On this server Hyperlobby is running at port 21000
IL2 Dedicated server is running on that server at port 21000

You want to have a second instance of Hyperlobby running on the server with IP 204.11.239.94

I am afraid that the anwer is (to my knowlege): NO you can not have two instances of Hyperlobby at the same time!
Unless Jiri mentions otherwise...

Besides this, everything I mentionned to you in the posts above, is sufficient and will work on a clean installation.

Best ergards,

~S~
