Hi all Smile

Is there anything i can do about the stutters ?
Are they server or client related ?
Can anything be done to eliminate or reduce them ?

Offline is smooth as silk, no problems.
All my drivers are up to date, i play other online games as well, no problems there.

Thanks for any insight on the matter !

Hello. It might be that if you go onto a busy server (10+ people) that your computer might not be able to handle all the detail at the grphics level you have specified (I know mine does- I have a 1 Ghz computer with a Gefroce 2 MX 400 video card). I find the easiest solution is to just turn down the detail without turning down the resolution. Works for me!

How fast a computer are you using?

Thanks for the reply Hokum,

my pc:
P4 2.26ghz
ATI Radeon 9800 128mb
1.5gb RAM
ADSL 256kb downloadl / 12kb upload
I play at 1600x1200x32, with 50+ average fps

Since my last post i've been doing some experimenting:

Smoothest connection I have is to the UK.Dedicated.1 or 2 servers, with an average ping of 96ms.

I live in Tel-Aviv, Israel (this is important as it accounts to how many hops my isp takes to the server's ip). I have yet to check the connection to the servers ip with pingplotter, but i plan to do that as well.

I've noticed that on servers that I have a ping of about 200ms, it tends to be a little choppy with small stutters, every now and then, not too bad actually, flying and gunnery is still relatively smooth and not a showstopper.

The biggest stutters I get is in the "Zeke vs Wildcat" server, even when the ping rate is lower then 200. From what I gather, it could be a server load problem, as theres quite alot of heavy calibre AA going off. From browsing the various IL2 forums, i've gathered that in the case of heavy calibre AA, each of these shells is tracked by the server, and this causes a very heavy load on the server.

So in the particular case of the "Zeke vs Wildcat" server, with the many CV's & escorts shooting their AAA guns all about, the stuttering could be because of server load, and not on the client's end.

I'm still experimenting and searching the knowledge base on various forums online, but I'd be definately glad to hear from anybody who might know how to reduce them, whether they be server or client induced.

ps- I am planning on setting up a server myself soon, so this info is very valuable for me right now.

Cheers,
ViFF

Hi again.

Hmmm.... it seems it is not your computer. Wink

The fact that it takes so many hops to get to your sever's ip probably is the problem. I am not exactly knowledgable in this as this has never happened to me even with my 56k modem. When it stutters, do you mean bad framerate stutters or jumping stutters (where the plane jumps to a place unexpected). If it is jumping stutters, it could very well be that with all the hops to your server's ip, your connection slows down.

Just a thought. Hope it helps!
