I've been using HL almost every day for about 5 years, but all of a sudden it is acting very strange. I haven't changed anything on my computer or in the HL settings.
When I first start my computer and open HL, it seems ok, except that it is slow to load everything. All the servers and players load, but it comes in spurts, like there is a lag.
Now, if I join a server and come back out to HL OR simply close HL and try to start it again, this is where the problems begin.
Sometimes only some of the servers load (left & right side windows), but no Players names and the chat line is dead. Sometimes all of the servers load, but still no Players or chat line. (I cannot join any servers or chat.)
(Also, people have told me they see me logging on and off constantly, but obviously there is a problem on my end loading everything.)
Eventually, if I keep opening and closing HL, it will load everything, although slowly, like there is some kind of lag.
Now today, while I was on HL, it just froze. The chat line just stopped, although there were many players on and chatting. There was no error message or anything. It just froze.
I have a solid cable connection and have not had any problems online except with HL.
I have tried several re-installs of HL. I even did a complete uninstall (I even deleted the folder left behind) and a fresh install but the problem still exists.
As a matter of fact, it seems as though I am having a problem with all parts of HL. When I try to open any part of the HL site (Main Menu, Forums, HL Manual, etc.), it is so slow to load that I have to try again 2 or 3 times before it loads at a fairly normal rate.
I'm having no problems at all with other online sites.
Any ideas?

Hi
Do you have problems with this website? EG: very slow to load? If so give your ISP a ring. They should be able to trace the problem.

Ok, I spoke with aircargo. We both have the exact same problem. We live near eachother (northeast NJ) and have the same provider (Cablevision-Optimum Online).
He called the cable co. and they did a trace to the HL web site (not the lobby). The guy said that there are x-amount of 'steps' to get to the site and the last few steps are very slow.
He also said that the site was 'out of their network', but I'm not sure what that means.
Anyway, both of us have been using HL for years and this problem just started earlier this week. The cable guy said there was nothing else he could do but I'm not so sure about that.
I'm going to call myself later today.
I feel a little better because I'm pretty sure it's not my computer, although it does seem to be my cable connection.
The funny thing is that it only seems to affect the HL Client and the HL website. All other internet websites are working normally for me.

Both aircargo and I are back to normal now. I don't know what it was and I don't care...

Good to hear your back to normal.
There are 25 servers involved in my connection to this website. The first 4 of them are owned by my ISP. From Aussie my connection then bounces around USA and makes its way to Europe.
So apart from the first 4, the others are out of my ISP's network. I think thats what your Cablevision-Optimum Online Admin is saying.
