Hi, You ping is the time or latency it takes for a packet of information to be sent to your computer then returned to the senders computer..
This is measured in milliseconds.
The Hyperlobby uses a program called Aping.exe which sends a ping to all users in the game slots. Then you see what time difference you have to them by how many green bars are next to there user-name.(The more bars the lower the latency (time) and the better the connection to the server/host of the game.
If you put your mouse over the green bars, information pops up on the actual time in milliseconds. The higher the number the slower your connection is to that user.
I am not sure what they mean by saying * i'm pinging them off the boards* but I guess they mean your ping is to high like over 1000 milliseconds (1 second). This can cause lag and warping in the game where what you are seeing is not what other players are seeing because of the time difference.
The way to improve your latency to other players depends on what sort of connection you have to the internet.
Dialup is ok in most cases for Il2/FB but sometimes bad if your ISP does not provide the bandwidth for you.
Try here and see what your connection speed is and compare it to other users with the same type of internet connection .
