I just built an Athalon 800 with a VooDoo5 5500 video card.
It runs jane's games like a champ!
WWII Fighters looks better with a VooDoo5 5500 than any other
card I have used. I am getting excellent frame rates with all
detail settings at max! (40 to 199 fps)
F-15 is also back to being fun to fly.
Plain and simple, for obsolete games you need an obsolete
computer!
Other games like DOOM and Duke Nukem look great as well.
IL2 and FB also run great but the ground detail settings need to be
on medium.
Bummer 3dfx went belly up, these VooDoo cards are great!

Windows 98SE here. I tried the various hacker ware drivers from
the "VooDoo files' for XP and they are pretty lame.
Also the Athalon never seemed to like XP but runs Win95 and 98
like a champ.
Also new mother boards will not accept old Video cards like
the VooDoo5 5500. You are stuck with the old hardware.

I knew already about the hardware limitation, but thanks anyway for the input.
My daughter PIII 1000 has 512 Ram and is able to run FB on medium settings giving a quite good FPS average.
I still think the Voodoo card were the best cards and the cancelled voodoo 6 6600 with 128 and 4 graphics processors would be a very hard contender to the Nvidia GF series |

IMHO Voodoo series of the videocards was the best. I had Voodoo 2, Banshee and Voodoo 3. All was run all Janes sims fine with good graphics quality. The i bought an Asus GF 2 and it was crap in the graphics quality. Now i have a Radeon 9700 and iam happy with functionality and quality. It finally saves me from Nvidia crap.
BTW i found over the internet that there are available drivers source code for 3DFX voodoo 3 and higher |

I totally agree with Jiri, Voodoo's ruled!
In my humble opinion 3dfx was done in by payola-bad press.
The GF2 was never close to the VooDoo5 5500.
I like it better than the GF3 but frame rates are not as good.
A few VooDoo5 6000s were built, there were two distinct types.
I would love to have one of those puppies (with drivers).
With the death of 3dfx ATI rules. I also use a 9700 pro and
I like it just fine, but it can not render F-15 worth beans and
Jane's WWII Fighters looks better with VooDoo cards.

I got to say the old VooDoo card runs a bunch of old games great.
If it was a Glide game, VooDoo's excell.
I'll make a list of games that run better than a GeForce or ATI card.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unreal Tournament (first version)
DOOM, all versions especially with "Doomsday Engine"
Quake I and Quake II
Duke Nukem 3D
Wofenstein
Jane's WWII Fighters
Jane's F-15
Rowans Mig Alley
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
